Our Pathway to Stabilization Tip this week is: Start a conversation about the Pathway to Stabilization with at least three people this month. A simple conversation is a great way to absorb a new topic and to gather ideas from others.
To help you prepare, consider this:
1. Who will I talk to?
Decide who you’d like to chat with about growth stabilization.
Who might have unique perspectives to offer?
Who might be interested to learn more about growth stabilization?
Who have you been meaning to chat with anyway?
Don’t limit yourself! Consider people both in and out of your own department.
2. What will I focus on in the conversation?
Think about how you might start the conversation or the questions that you might ask.
What would you say first about the pathway to stabilization? How could you connect it to the budget, or to the FY 2024 Program Review, or to performance metrics?
How might the other person’s background and experiences help shape the conversation?
What would they be most interested in talking about?
How might the conversation be different depending on how long the other person has worked or lived in the County?
3. What should I know before the conversation?
You don’t need to be an expert on the Pathway to Stabilization project, but it wouldn’t hurt to familiarize yourself with the County’s data and projections. Read all about it in the presentation from the August 2022 Leadership Advance here or in the Pathway toolkit. Also, you can familiarize yourself with all County programs, service levels, and metrics in the FY 2020 Program Review.
For inspiration, we are sharing an audio recording of someone thinking through these questions as she prepares to chat with three people.
Try it!
